After not having a new coat for 2 years (I know) I decided to go and buy 2 in the space of a few months. First it was the coat that goes with everything from Nasty Gal. It’s the one I’ll often wear to work or times when I need to be casual.
But anyone who knows me knows that I don’t like dressing casual too much. I don’t think anyone really makes an effort anymore and that makes me so sad. I’m pretty sure that’s one of the main reasons I’m so drawn to 60’s and 70’s styles, because everyone seemed to bother a bit more in those days.
I love to “dress up” – no, not in princess outfits. But in fancy trousers, cute skirts and pretty dresses. Which means I end up looking over dressed for almost every occasion. And I love it!
Yeah, I’m one of those people.
Even to go sit in the dark in a cinema, I need to feel cute. And the one thing I rarely feel cute in anymore is jeans.
There’s nothing wrong with them. They’re perfect for when I’m taking Olive to the park, but as soon as I’m home, off they come. They just don’t do it for me. I feel too boring. Which is more my personal issue than the jeans themselves but hey ho! Maybe I just haven’t found the right pair for me yet.
But if anything would make me feel better about myself in jeans, it’d have to be the most recent addition to my coat collection, this faux fur jacket from Jakke!
When I first saw it online I thought it was standard black and white stripes, which of course I was alright with. That was before I bothered to read the description though, which told me the stripes were teal. Green is my absolute favourite colour but I’m certain a more emerald green would have been too much for this coat.
The darker teal is beauuuutiful! It’s subtle but still just enough colour to make it stand out. Also, it’s super soft and cosy as fuck.
I kept the webpage open on my laptop for about a week before I finally bought it. Not that I had even the tiniest little doubt that I wasn’t getting this coat. I’m just more of a saver so sometimes I can be very, shall we say, tight with my money.
I’m so glad it’s now mine though. Here I wore it over a plain white tee from Boohoo, tan flares from ASOS and boots from Vagabond. It’s definitely the star of the outfit, isn’t it?
A proper statement jacket.
It adds so much to a look that I already loved. I’ve wore it over a silky slip dress and polo neck too and it looked gorgeous, if I do say so myself. So going back to what I said earlier, it would definitely spruce up my boring jean outfits. I’m going to have to try it out.
I love having pieces in my wardrobe that are bold enough to make almost any outfit so unique. And I think stripes are a good design to go with when looking for one of those stand out pieces I’m talking about. They’re not so far out on the pattern spectrum to be feared, they’re a comfy middle that add just enough!
PS. I got a little distracted when I was shooting these pics, so please enjoy me shaking a tiny maraca !! Happy new year and all that jazz
